Preview and Predictions Group D

The opening game of Group D, between Croatia and England, at Wembley Stadium, is a showdown between the group's two potential teams advancing to the knockout stages.

With players like Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic, and Domagoj Vida in the team, Croatia is striving for a repeat of its 2018 World Cup runner-up finish.

In the first game, it should make things hard for England. Croatia has faced the Three Lions before on the grand occasion, and Modric could determine the speed of the game to disrupt England's assaulting pace.

After entering the final four of the 2018 World Cup, England is under a great deal of pressure. For the very first time since 1996, the Three Lions are attempting to advance to the quarterfinals of the Euros.

The injury of Trent Alexander-Arnold upsets England's defense, and yet Gareth Southgate has a range of possibilities on the defensive flanks, such as Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier.

The Three Lions have one of the toughest forward groups of the 24 teams in Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, and Marcus Rashford. Kane is a top candidate to compete with Lukaku for the Golden Boot.

However, if England does not defeat Croatia, it will need four to six points from its games against the Czech Republic and Scotland to qualify for the next round.

Unless either Scotland or the Czech Republic can pull off an unexpected victory over one of the two group faves, their fortunes could be determined in the first game at Hampden Park.

Both third-ranked contenders may have difficulty scoring goals. Patrik Schick has 10 international goals, and yet his form in the Bundesliga over the last two seasons has been patchy. Only John McGinn has scored more than ten international goals for Scotland.

The Czechs have more international experience, and their pressing system could cause problems for England and Croatia for a while, however, they'll need more growth from Schick if they want to progress.

Forecast: 1. Croatia, 2. England, 3. The Czech Republic, 4. Scotland
