Preview and Predictions Group A

In Group A, the defense should have the upper hand.

In their last eight games, Italy has not lost a game. Its most recent fiasco came in the 25th minute of a UEFA Nations League match against the Netherlands on October 14.

Switzerland's defense has not been as effective as Italy's, though it has been solid in recent months. The Swiss have only surrendered more than one goal once in their most recent seven games.

Wales has three clean sheets in five games this season, whereas Turkey has given in four goals during its last five matches, with the three goals it conceded to Latvia skewing the total. So far in 2021, it has had three clean sheets.

If the defensive trends extend into Rome and Baku, it could take a single chance in front of the goal to create a difference in Group A.

If the defensive situation continues in Rome and Baku, a singular opportunity in front of the goal could be enough to make a significant difference in Group A.

Italy has one of the most profound forward groups theoretically, yet none of its players have more than 13 international goals. Ciro Immobile leads the group in scoring, with 13 goals in 46 international games.

The other three teams' intimidating players are Haris Seferovic, Burak Yilmaz, and Gareth Bale. Bale has the most international goals in Group A, and he has scored in each of Wales' Euro 2016 group-stage games.

If Bale can produce a few more flashes of brilliance, Wales may be able to edge out a few of the teams in Group A.

Bale's career took a turn for the better at Tottenham Hotspur, and he was in fine form for the Euros. If the best player in the group makes an appearance, the final group matchday could be a real fight between Italy and Wales for the first rank.

Since Bale is a major danger, Italy's midfielder has the most X-factors with Jorginho and Marco Verratti. Furthermore, Federico Chiesa of Italy could be the breakout star of Group A. During his first full season with Juventus, he scored 15 goals and added 10 assists. In 25 performances for Italy, he has only one goal.

Forecast: 1. Italy, 2. Wales, 3. Switzerland, 4. Turkey
