The dates for the Premier League in 2022-2023: off 6 August, 41 days off for the World Cup

The Premier League has announced the dates for the upcoming season, which will concur with the World Cup in the winter. From November 14 to December 26, there will be a break. In the meantime, English clubs are opposed to the World Cup being held every two years.

When will the 2022-2023 season begin?

Following in the footsteps of Ligue 1 and Bundesliga, the Premier League has announced the dates for the 2022-2023 season, which will coincide with the first-ever winter World Cup in Qatar. The English championship is set to begin on Saturday, August 6, 2022.

When will the final round be?

The championship's final round before the World Cup break will be held on the weekends of November 12 and 13. The restart, on the other hand, is scheduled for Boxing Day 2022, eight days after the World Cup final, which will be held on Sunday, December 18th. Finally, the 2022-2023 Premier League's final round will take place on May 28, 2023.

Will the World Cup be held every two years?

Another topic discussed during the Premier League meeting was FIFA's proposal to hold the World Cup every two years. A reform that does not have the support of the English clubs, who have all expressed their displeasure with it.

"All 20 Premier League clubs have discussed the post-2024 International Match Calendar reform process and are unanimously opposed to FIFA’s proposal for biennial men’s World Cups, along with any plans involving significantly extended international windows".

"Clubs raised concerns about the negative impacts FIFA’s current proposals would have on player welfare, the fan experience, pre-season preparations and the quality of competitions." said the Premier League.
